Why work with me

While my approach to counselling is both creative and integrative in nature, I also draw on the strengths of various other counselling approaches including attachment theory, humanistic, psychodynamic and systemic. I place the therapeutic relationship at the heart of what I do in providing a safe space in a relaxed and non-judgemental setting where you can be fully seen and heard.
I offer a protected space to explore, reflect and find new understandings of your experiences in what you are struggling with.
Seeking therapy takes courage and through my warm , collaborative and non-judgmental approach, I will attune and listen to you attentively. Counselling is designed to help untangle some of your thoughts and feelings, to help you understand yourself better and to give you a confidential space to work through what you might be facing in your life.
Counselling, through its nature is a unique relationship that can support you through confusing or stressful times in your life and can help to facilitate positive change.
When working with children and young people my approach is child led. I use creative materials and play as a way to help work through and express feelings. For me, ‘child-led’ means running my sessions at the child’s pace and tailoring them to each individual’s needs. Together, we might look at early interactions and explore unconscious feelings, while also focusing on what’s going on in the present moment.

About Me

I am a UK trained counsellor and hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and the Swiss Association of Counselling. I work with children, adolescents and adults. Before becoming a counsellor, I gained a degree in Music (BMus) from the University of Hull, and have worked as a music teacher. This work provided me with an extensive knowledge of young people’s personal, social, emotional and educational concerns.

I have lived and worked abroad twice ( in Amsterdam and Zurich) and this has been enriching for me from a cultural and diversity perspective. Currently I am working in bereavement services and working with adults in both short term and long term settings. I am currently studying for a Masters in Gestalt at the Metanoia Institute in Ealing, which is accredited through the UKCP.

I am passionate about my work and have also continued my professional development in areas such as child development, attachment, somatics and bereavement.

FAQ

How much do you charge?

My fees are £70 per session. If you are interested in proceeding further, I can then carry out an assessment for up to 90 minutes for which I charge my standard fee of £70.  For my work with children, I require parents to attend the assessment without their child.  After the assessment we can have a further chat and decide together the way forward for your child.

How long does therapy take?

I offer both short term and longer term therapy. The number of sessions varies from client to client and depends on your individual needs.

Can I stop therapy when I want to?

We work at your pace and you are free to end therapy at any stage.

How do I start?

I offer an initial 15 minute chat on the telephone for which there is no charge. You will have the chance to learn more about how I work and ask any questions that you may have.

How often and how long are sessions?

I recommend meeting weekly, at the same time each week, as this helps establish the therapeutic relationship and provides continuity for the work to grow.  Sessions are for 50 minutes.

Are you a member of a registered body?

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and I abide by its ethics, standards and practices. I am also registered with the Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) and hold an enhanced DBS check.

Is therapy confidential?

All information disclosed during our sessions will be treated as confidential, according to the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy guidelines. I adhere to this ethical framework for the counselling professions.

What are your qualifications?

I trained at Place2Be, one of the UK's leading mental health charities supporting children and I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling Children in Schools awarded by Place2Be in conjunction with the University of East London. I regularly attend courses and training to continue my professional development and my work is fully insured and professionally supervised.
